A PENNY A DAY
A MEASURE OF A KIND AND GENTLE MAN CAN SOMETIMES BE MEASURED IN PENNIES.
A VERY LONG TIME AGO I MET ALBERT RANGER IN GRADE FOUR AT THOMAS
HODGSON SCHOOL, LOCATED ON WENTWORTH STREET, IN NANAIMO.
WE BECAME FRIENDS, TRADING COMIC BOOKS IN THE HALLWAY.
A START OF A LIFE LONG FRIENDSHIP.
BACK TO THE PENNIES.
MANY YEARS LATER, I WAS LEAVING AL'S STUDIO, LOCATED ON NORTHWEST BAY
ROAD, IN NANOOSE AND AS HE WALKED ME TO THE FRONT PORCH AND I
PROCEEDED TO THE PARKING LOT, I STOPPED AND PICKED UP A PENNY.
"HEY AL, HERE'S A PENNY".
"YOU KNOW HOW IT GOES", SAYS AL. "FIND A PENNY PICK IT UP AND ALL DAY LONG YOU'LL
HAVE GOOD LUCK".
I PICKED IT UP AND PUT IT IN MY POCKET, FEELING THE BETTER FOR THE MOMENT.
"HEY AL HERE'S ANOTHER ONE".
"I KNOW", SAYS AL.
"I THROW A FEW PENNIES OUT ON THE PARKING LOT EVERY ONCE AND AWHILE".
"IT MAKES PEOPLE HAPPY AND IT GIVES THEM A GOOD START FOR THE DAY."
PENNIES OR NO PENNIES...MY FRIEND, AL RANGER, GAVE ME MANY STARTS TO A GOOD DAY..
HIS FRIEND,
GRANT DICKIE
